Hobby Crisis

For those of you who don't know...I have changed my major to Social Work with the hopes of becoming a Marriage & Family therapist. I think its great, and am so excited to learn and work in this field. There's just one downside: I miss singing and doing theater. Up until about April of last year it was my whole life. I didn't think I was capable of doing anything else. I am glad to have found a new path in life, but I want to make room for something I still love and hold near & dear to my heart. Theater is so time consuming; how do I make room for something in my schedule that has a tenancy to take over? School is hard, I want time at home with my husband, I want to sing again. Is it possible to have everything that you want? Or am I being totally selfish?

How do you make time for things that you love, that aren't your #1 (or #2) priority?

  1. My husband is the exact same way. Right now he is working, directing at a childrens theater company and is now in a play until christmas eve! I'm not going to get to see him till about ten o clock every night. It is hard, but I know that he loves it, and is passionate about it. He sacrificed a lot of opportunities he could've had for me, So i figured I'd be supportive of him doing this again. I really don't know the right answer but that's just from the other side of what you're contemplating.

  2. Yikes! I would go crazy being home by myself all the time. You're such a trooper. Chris is totally supportive, I just don't know when I would find the time. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

  3. Oh Melissa. I want you to know that because of your talent and dedication, I looked up to you. I knew there was no way I could match your ability, but I could try to work as hard as I know you did. I wanted to be able to touch others the way you touched me. I hope you're able to figure out a way to continue performing because I know it inspires those who watch as much as it brings joy to you.
Thank you so much for being such a great example to me!
