Life Update

As you may or may not have heard- I have been accepted into the Social Work program at BYU-Idaho. I've been waiting since January to hear of their decision, so you can imagine that this news lifted a lot of stress off my shoulders. It was so weird to not know what I would be doing my last semester of college...and potentially the rest of my life! I love it when things go according to plan.
Luckily, I've been steadily moving up the waitlist in Abnormal Psych....I started at #10 and I'm at #4
But don't worry, things won't be too easy-breezy for me around here. With my good news came time to register for my first semester, essentially I kissed summertime goodbye with 20 credits. I've never taken 20 credits before. But, because I'm a transfer student I'm still making up for all those missed religion classes and generals that didn't transfer from good ole Westminster College. This semester I have 15 credits and that seemed like a lot, but I'm thinking I might pull off a 4.0 for my first time ever....anyway, I'm probably just a big baby and I'm sure I'll find some way to make it work (but until then I'll probably stress about it a whole lot).
To celebrate, my husband took me out for my favorite treat--frozen yogurt. The above is his creation. I think its pretty funny because I am such a psycho about my yogurt; all the flavors must go together. And, in my opinion, vanilla wafers/kiwi/gummy worms/cherries and chocolate yogurt don't mix. To each his own.

Life is good. Everything works out, people!

It's OK

It's ok...
if you have a zit.
if you haven't worked out since Friday.
if you don't want to do anything productive.
if you should have washed your hair this morning, but didn't.
if you made a dumb comment in your history class.
if you weren't the perfect wife today.
if you walk around half the day with a piece of carrot stuck in your teeth.
if you haven't perfectly followed your project outline to prevent procrastination.
if you and your husband went out for a dinner that wasn't the healthiest.
Life goes on & life is good. You can do hard things. Enjoy the journey. Don't beat yourself up too much.

Surprise

Surprises are one thing (of many) that my husband is incredibly good at. If you remember, when Chris proposed it was a complete surprise! Today I've been reflecting on my other favorite spontaneous, out of the blue, gestures that my husband brought to life.

April 1, 2011: It was one weekend where Chris had let me know that he just couldn't make it to Salt Lake City to visit me. I was so sad! Dating long distance was so hard on me, when we were apart I had a sick feeling that just wouldn't go away. The weekends Chris and I had together were what kept me going through the week (Fun Fact: Chris only missed one weekend in Utah the entire time we were dating-because I was on a theater tour to St. George). It was completely understandable- it was the weekend before his finals started and he would be moving down to Utah the very next weekend...but I was still undeniably depressed. Friday afternoon, I was at work talking to my coworker (who just happened to be Chris' little sister) about how completely dreadful and horrid my weekend was going to be sans Chris. She was in the middle of reassuring me when a customer came to my ticket window. I turned around to address him when I realized...it was my finance holding a frosty float! I couldn't believe it and was deliriously happy. My sweet sister-in-law-to-be graciously took over my shift so Chris and I could spend every possible second together. Best April Fool's trick ever!

December (Something-th) 2010: Chris and I had been dating less than a month, but I already loved him like crazy. I wanted to get him a really special gift, but I had a big problem- I was poor poor poor. I knew he was up in freezing cold Rexburg, so I decided to tie him a fleece blanket. Sister-in-law-to-be saved the day again and drove me to the fabric store. I picked out the fabric, bought some fabric scissors and took them home and made the blanket. I'm not crafty. It may have turned out a little lopsided and/or uneven...but I did my best and put a crapload of love into it. (Fun Fact: When Chris and I moved into our first apartment, my mom and I realized that we had like 5 blankets. She gestured toward Chris' lopsided, uneven red-and-soccerballs fleece blanket and said "Is he particularly attached to that blanket?" Obviously, she was a little dismayed that her attempts to teach me to sew and stuff hadn't payed off...). So, when it came time to exchange gifts we decided that Chris would go first. He handed me a neatly wrapped package. I opened it and it was full of all my favorite treats and burt's bee's chapstick. Win. I was completely happy, content, and ready to give him my gift; then Chris pulled out a small wrapped package and said, "Actually, I got you this." Confused, I opened it. Inside was a beautiful white gold necklace and earring set with my birthstone. I was speechless...and, lets be honest, a little embarrassed about my lopsided blanket. I distinctly remember thinking....I hope he doesn't dump me because of my lame gift. Of course, he didn't and turns out he is particularly attached to that blanket.
A picture that just doesn't do his gift justice.
March 15, 2013: I'm sitting at our kitchen table, chatting with my aunt, and Chris walks through the front door. Holding a beautiful bouquet of roses and lilies. I'm sure I interrupted my aunt mid-sentence when I exclaimed, "What's this?!" Chris gave me a kiss and said, "I just wanted to get you flowers."

Long story short: I am so grateful to have a husband who always thinks of me and shows his love in the big and small ways!
Does anybody know of good ways to surprise guys? I feel like mine are always less than stellar...

K.I.S.S.

When I start to try and make changes, it seems that my first instinct is to make a chart or some other form of progress tracking device to help me in my new endeavors. While I feel that there is a time and a place for charts and progress tracking, sometimes simplicity truly is the key to success. There doesn't need to be an app for every part of life; you don't have to micromanage every hour of every day.
Subtracting:
-  Excessive social media (mostly just Facebook)
-  Excessive Netflix use (its becoming quite a problem)
-  Excessive and Obsessive calorie counting, weighing, and measuring
What are things you're trying to subtract?
P.S. Do y'all like the new look? I'm still tweaking it...

Top 10 Tuesday: Ten Reasons Why College is Stressful

(aren't alliterations fun?)
1. Each one of your professors think that their course is the most important and expect that you put the corresponding assignments, projects, and exams at the top of your priority list. Hard to do when 6 different people are telling you that.
2. Instead of getting paid to work, you pay to work.
3. You are supposed to treat school like a full time job, but you have to survive so you also need a full time job. You usually end up settling for school as a part time job, finding the closest thing you can to a part time job, and being poor.
4. If you get accepted into the social work program, they mandate 12 of the credits you have to take and each course is only available at one time. Say goodbye to your awesome box office job because you have two classes a day with a giant break in between, making it impossible for you to clear the block of time necessary to keep your awesome job.
5. You won't find out if you've made it into the social work program until 2 weeks after registration has started (even though you turned in your application two months early)...which is 2 weeks before you are supposed to start the social work program. Is it bad juju to register for your back up plan?
6. Sometimes, you have to take religion classes that have nothing to do with your major or future career, causing additional stress; which is sad, because you actually really enjoy your religion classes. But because of your (potential) social work program requirements, taking a religion class pushes you to 20 credits. Which is suicide, if you don't actually commit suicide.
7. There's no time to get sick. If you do get sick, you can either be 1) the nasty sick person who should have stayed home or 2) the nasty sick person who stayed home while their grades go down the crapper.
8. Your Todo list literally. never. ends. Ever.
9. Pinterest mocks you because your apartment is cluttered, you're getting fat, your eyebrows don't match, you haven't cooked in a week, your clothes are faded and have holes in them, your hair sucks, and you go on the same date with your husband every weekend.
10. You get stuck doing group projects where either a) you're the group leader trying to lead a bunch of idiots to an "A" or b) you should have been the group leader because your group leader is an idiot and you won't get an "A" even if its the easiest project ever!

***HAHA! So, I just published this....and realized that it is actually Wednesday. I just thought I'd tell you so you aren't confused like me.***
