Today, I am grateful

Today I am grateful for a husband...
: who sings "Honey, I'm Home" by Shania Twain every time he walks in the door.
: who I can talk with all night long.
: who is willing to spend money on tickets for us to see Shrek at the Capitol Theater on Friday (!!!)
: who cleans off my car when he's running late (because, usually, I'm running later).
: who will cuddle with me, even when my out of control hair invades his breathing space.
: who keeps life interesting and fun with little surprises.
: who celebrates my smallest accomplishments.
: who constantly reminds me that he loves me.
Yeah, I know.
I'm cheesy.
I'm cliche.
But I don't care.
:)

Slacker

This morning, I slept in. I didn't go to the gym or do anything...I just slept. Until 7am.
I am not ashamed.
Sometimes, you just need to sleep.
And cuddle.

He's still got it.

Chris and I were at the $3 movie on Monday night...it was a spontaneous date, which was super fun; our schedules rarely allow dates on week nights. Anyway, Chris got up in the middle of the movie to "go to the bathroom" and came back with my favorite candy. Score. It means a lot when he goes out of his way to do things for me even though he doesn't really have to worry about impressing me anymore.

And the stars align...

For those of you around town wondering why we've been driving 3 different cars in a week in a half, here's why....

I hate car shopping; its the worst, I would rather go to the dentist or be on my period. Chris loves it.

My sweet husband was driving to his (6:30am) morning class and our Camry broke town. Luckily, he is friends with a car dealer in town and was able to call him and have our car towed (he did it for free, too!) and taken to the dealers mechanic. We got some bad news: the Camry needed over a thousand dollars worth of repairs. We got some good news: our dealer-friend had a client who was dying to get a Camry the exact color/make/model/year that ours was. He offered us a trade on any vehicle on his lot in exchange for our car. We were happy to do this, not wanting to deal with extensive car repairs.

However, there was nothing on the lot that fit what we were wanting/needing in a vehicle. We took the closet thing possible...a 2002 BMW SUV (in car lingo it's called an X5). It was a great car....very nice and luxurious but just too expensive for us to maintain and it had over 110,000 miles on it, so we decided to try our luck on KSL to try and sell it. We weren't expecting to have it sell right away, or have anyone willing to pay what we were asking for it. We were wrong. We had an extremely interested buyer call us two days after the ad was up. Before we knew it we were in a parking lot making the deal; getting our asking price and all!

Well, we were down to one car...which wasn't ideal with our crazy schedules. We decided to start looking again to see what we could find in our price range. Long story short....we found my dream car: a Toyota Rav 4- still under warranty! I was in love and wanted the car so badly. We went in to make an offer and found out that the car was a lot newer than we thought and out of our price range. (Enter Chris the Magical Buyer and Seller:) After some wheeling and dealing and lots of number talk we were signing papers and were owners of the Rav 4 with money in our budget to spare!

In short, we (especially me) couldn't be happier. It was crazy to see how everything worked out in such a timely manner; our school and work schedules remained virtually uninterrupted. We were able to get out of a car we couldn't afford and into a car we wanted and would be reliable for us. There is no way all of this happened by chance: we're calling it divine intervention. We are so blessed and couldn't be happier!

Word Vomit

I enjoy going to bed at 8:30 and waking up at 7. Just what the doctor ordered.
I love that Chris loves Diet Coke just as much as I do, making it clear that we need 4 twelve packs for 12 dollars.
Its the best when your husband scratches your back until you fall alseep.
Greek yogurt. Its like ice cream.
It's getting chilly, sometimes I can even justify turning on the heat in the car. I'm ok with that.
Cupcakes from Cocoa Bean. Better than ice cream.
I haven't been to the gym all week. I'm ok with that.
Never ending pasta at olive garden. One million calories.....worth it.

I like living in a studio apartment. I get to lay in bed more because we don't have a couch.
I got blonde in my hair. I quite like it.

Chris is teaching me to play Risk. He destroys me every time. I love him for that.

Long ToDo lists.....I should be doing homework right now.
Obviously, I need to charge my phone....
I'm a lucky, lucky girl.

Twice in 7 Weeks

We have moved twice in seven weeks. Twice. Oi.

Honestly, its a long and boring story....but things at the assisted living facility didn't work out. Just not for us. If we weren't about to start school, we would have just stuck it out....but we start on Monday. Grades are money and if we aren't doing well in school it doesn't matter how much money we are saving. School comes first.

It was a blessing from heaven when the apartment we wanted/could afford became available right before school starts. That hardly ever happens in Rexburg...usually there is a 6 month-1 year waiting list.

Anyway...so the last 3 or 4 days has consisted of us frantically moving from one apartment to another. We didn't really want to take the time to box things up and such, so we stuffed our cars full and took about 3 trips. Probably not the most efficient way...but we got things done. I finished unpacking last night around 1:30; it was worth it to wake up to a spotless, organized apartment.

Now, I just have to endure until Saturday when Chris doesn't have to work the night shift and I don't have to sleep alone.
I love this little area!

Our Closets/Space for our bed

I am so excited to have our own kitchen again!
Even though I hate moving and the last few days have been a headache, I am glad to have Chris by my side...to ease the stress and help me see the humor in every situation.

8.12.11

Today is our one year anniversary. My how time flies.

I can say with complete certainty that I love this man more today than I did one year ago. He has taken the role of husband by storm and has made me the happiest girl alive.

I can't help but be a little nostalgic...wishing I could relive our wedding day over again; holding his hands over the altar as we were sealed for eternity, being surrounded by all of our family and friends, our first dance, ....I could go on and on.

Since we've been married, we've had a lot of great days and some not so good ones...but the beauty is, we've overcome everything that has come our way in the last year and we are stronger because of it. I am so excited to experience the things year 2 has in store for us!

That moment when...

This morning, Chris and I were just cuddling in bed...one of my favorite things to do, I could seriously cuddle all day long.
We had recorded Chris' favorite show last night, but we didn't stay awake long enough to watch it. Knowing that Chris had a long day of work ahead of him (9am-9pm), I asked him if he wanted to watch it before work.
His response? "Nah, I'd rather just enjoy cuddling with you.
Did I marry a keeper, or what?!

The Devil's Sperm

"How did you know that Chris really loved you?"
This is a question I get asked fairly often, and for good reason; we went from not knowing each other to engaged in less than 3 months.  I don't have to think very hard to get several examples of how Chris has shown his love for me. Here is one that has been on my mind lately:

We were engaged and living in South Carolina, doing an internship before the wedding. We had spent a weekend at his family's beautiful lake house.

We had a blast! When we got back from our mini vacation, I had an ear ache. I figured it was just some irritation from the lake water, so I administered a home remedy for swimmers ear. It continued to bother me and then, one morning I woke up and my ear had swollen shut. It hurt so bad and I was a weepy mess. Chris took charge. He called my boss and got me off work for the day, called my insurance company and found a clinic we could go to, and drove me to the doctor. They prescribed me some medicine and sent us on our way.
Well, it got a lot worse and I got a lot more hysterical and unreasonable; but Chris continued to be sweet and understanding, and did everything he could for me. One night, I was taking a bubble bath and this little guy fell out of my ear, and begun swimming around in the water.
We named it the devil sperm and Chris rushed me to the ER.
Long story short- It was a lake bug. I was prescribed the same antibiotics as the doctor before gave me- which made me extremely frustrated and increasingly emotional. When all the craziness subsided and I regained control over myself, I realized how lucky I was to have a man who would deal with me when I was so insane; and who would do so lovingly and understandingly, never judging my for my crying fits or unfair demands.
Just one of many ways I know that I married a keeper and am the luckiest girl alive.

Back to Basics

Today, I was thinking to myself "Wow. I'm married! That's so crazy!" It's weird how things like that just hit you all of a sudden. You would think that after almost a year of marriage I would be adjusted and used to the idea.

About a year and four(ish) months ago, Chris and I began our relationship. It looked a little like this:
Can you believe it? A marriage resulted in Chris commenting on one of my pictures to test the waters. It still blows my mind.
Then, Chris got gutsy...
He just may kill me for posting this.
[I know that Facebook has a bad rep for being superficial and a big fat waste of time. But, every once in awhile something great comes as a result of it.]
I am just so incredible grateful. I'm grateful that Facebook existed and gave Chris and I a stress free place to get to know each other. I'm grateful Chris took me on the most amazing first date ever! I'm grateful that I am sitting next to him on the couch right now- just chillin'- and that I get to spend every single day with my favorite person in the world.

Hello.

Observe: still trying to wake up from a too-long Sunday nap
hi. it seems like its been forever.
I miss the times when I was able to blog once (or twice, or thrice) a day. In all honesty...I don't think my life is as exciting now that school is out. I just go to work, go to the gym, and sleep as much as I can. Sometimes I even get to see my hubby.

Speaking of Chris...his employment has changed drastically! He got a job as a guitar instructor (!) about a month ago. The studio is pretty full, so he hasn't had the opportunity to work yet, but that's normal- it takes time to acquire students. He also just got hired to work at an assisted living center here in Rexburg. He is getting all sorts of certifications and has meet the sweet residents- I am so excited for him!

I love working at Victoria's Secret. Yesterday, this mom and daughter came in to the beauty department- they were shopping for daughter's first makeup! I had so much fun helping her try out fun eye shadows and talking about mascara....all the while keeping in mind she had just turned 12. I remember being that age and wanting to wear makeup so bad! I'm glad my mom and dad set some ground rules so I didn't go too crazy.

Today at church, Chris and I were admiring this adorable little girl during sacrament meeting (dancing to the hymns). Chris leaned over to me and said, "I want one." I pretty much melted. I love hearing that, even if its fairly far off for us. I love how he can still give me butterflies.

Whole Again

My hubby comes home tonight!

He's been in Utah since Sunday afternoon, visiting his family. I couldn't go because of work. Boo.

If I'm being honest, I didn't anticipate some of the effects of our separation. I was so lonely watching a movie by myself. I didn't know it was so much work to keep the apartment clean. I didn't realize how cold a bed can get when there is only one person sleeping in it. Also, your day seems pretty pointless when it only consists of work and then a lot of TV.

I am so glad that I don't have to spend another night alone and that he will soon be on a shuttle back to me. My gratitude for him and the many things he does for me is renewed. I am so useless and lame without him!
Side note: anyone remember this lovely from back in the day?
I'm slightly embarrassed to admit, I was a fan & owned this album.

50 Ways

In the midst of missing my hubby, I found this wonderful list on pinterest.
It's too good not to share.
I also made a printable version on google docs for those of you who would like to have a copy.
Just click here.
50 Ways to Show Your Husband You Love Him
CHOOSE TO ACT NOT RE-ACT.  Isn't it so natural and easy to react to others - to become offended when someone is offensive?!  To reflect shortness to someone's being short or irritable?  You cannot ever change others, but you have the power to choose how you act and love.  Experiment with showing more love in the moment rather than just merely mirroring how they treat you - this is one of the hardest things for us humans to do.
MIRROR & TOILET MESSAGES.  Write a little love note on your bathroom mirror with lipstick or a dry erase marker.  Or if you really feel like being crazy and doing something totally-out-of-the-ordinary, write on toilet paper with a permanent marker and lay out message on top of the toilet water.
SAY YOU'RE SORRY, before he does.  I love the quote by Ruth Bell Graham: "A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers."
TELL YOUR CHILDREN WHAT YOU LOVE ABOUT THEIR DAD.  A lot.
DROP EVERYTHING.  Try putting aside your eternal to-do lists just for a moment, and give your husband your sincere, undivided attention.
INITIATE.   Researchers report that "Marital Intimacy" is the #1 need of Men in marriage - or the #1 way that they feel loved.  So make it fun, try new things, initiate!  The key for women to be in the right mindset is to feel beautiful... and not tired.
TEXT HIM Surprise him with a spontaneous, flirty text or a sentence about why you are so grateful for him.  Finding your own ways to connect during the day makes a difference.
START A HOBBY TOGETHER. Write a “bucket list” of fun things you want to do together. Find something you both would enjoy!
PLAN A DATE NIGHT even it is in your own home when the kiddos are asleep. It’s so important to have that time to fall in love all over again - just the two of you.  We usually keep it super simple, but it really does make a huge difference.
START A “LOVE JOURNAL” where you can write letters to each other, paste in notes you’ve both written, special memories, and such.
KEEP YOURSELF ATTRACTIVE  Whether it's throwing on some makeup, or finding some cute clothes that are actually clean, or getting your hair done - it doesn't always happen but it does wonders for how we feel about ourselves.
BREAKFAST IN BED make heart-shaped pancakes.
FLIRT WITH HIM It's funny how we totally flirt while dating, but once we're married we can easily forget to be FUN!  Just because you've snagged him, don't stop flirting.  Try to bring it back.
DON'T TRY TO BE HIS MOM Remember you are his wife, not his mother. Don't jump him every time he does something differently than you’d like.  Remember, YOU ARE EQUALS.
LAUGH AT HIS QUIRKS  When living with someone it's natural for the "little things" to get on both of your nerves.  Sometimes those very quirks can be endearing or even laughable and others require patience.
WRITE A FUN "LOVE NOTE".  "Top 10 Things I Love about My Husband" Or, just leave a note somewhere where he'll find it.
GIVE HIM A MASSAGE.  I bet he would love a spontaneous head rub or go all out and give him a back rub with lotion.
GRAB A KISS WHILE YOU WAIT Kiss your husband while you're waiting at the stoplight or in the food drive-through.
BE AWARE OF EXITS & ENTRANCES  As you and your husband say goodbyes and reunite again after a long day, be aware of how you show love during these important cross roads.
TALK ABOUT HIS INTERESTS Bring up a subject that interests him and listen to him talk. Even if the subject doesn't interest you, enjoy watching him as he gets stirred up over the topic.
SLOW DANCE in the kitchen when the kids go to bed...Actually, maybe dance in front of your kids!
VERBALLY SHOW APPRECIATION IN FRONT OF HIS FAMILY.  When with his family, for example, share sincere appreciation for what your husband does or who he is.
SURPRISE GIFT.  Surprise him with a fun gift of some kind that he’d really enjoy.
CALM DOWN FIRST, THEN TALK.  When you are in a moment of frustration, try taking some deep breathes, perhaps hold your tongue momentarily, and discuss it as soon as you feel more able to talk kindly.  It's easy for humans to say hurtful, non-helpful things if they just react instantly in a heated moment.
FIND SOME SANITY AT HOME. The environment of your home affects EVERYONE, especially you and you ability to focus more on relationships.
ENCOURAGE HIS HOBBIES, even if you’re perhaps not fond of some.  Encourage him, even help make it happen!
EAT BY CANDLELIGHT.
TAKE A HIKE OR WALK TOGETHER. It's hard to hold hands while pushing a stroller, but at least you can talk!
EAT AN ICE CREAM CONE TOGETHER Buy one, large cone, and eat it together at the same time.
PRAY TOGETHER EACH NIGHT. Take turns each night expressing 1) why you're grateful for your spouse and 2) what you want to do to be more worthy of his/her love.
ENCOURAGE HIM TO BUY THAT TOY he's been wanting so badly. Better yet, put some of your own things off, save the money and buy it for him yourself!
MEND HIS CLOTHES One website suggested to surprise him but trying to "fix" some of his clothes. This may increase his wardrobe by 20%!
HAVE A WRESTLING MATCH This will get you both laughing, and it will remind you not to be so serious.
SEEK HIS ADVICE Ask for your husband's input and advice on anything from children to what he might like to eat. This will let him know he's needed and that his thoughts are important.
LOOK OUT FOR HIS HEALTH Encourage your husband to get plenty of sleep and exercise. Physical exercise seems to be a HUGE deal for many men and women to be able to face the challenges of each day.  We happen to be P90X fans, but find whatever works for you!
MAKE HIM A COUPON BOOK  Give him coupons to redeem—maybe for a back scratch or a shoulder rub or things that would mean much to him.
CUDDLE WHILE WATCHING A MOVIE.  Maybe you could even pick out a movie you know he would really like and have a yummy treat!
DON'T BE A PESSIMIST Try not to focus too much on the negative. Try to have a positive outlook in your marriage and on life.  There’s a difference between having real and honest talks (which is completely necessary) and just having a sour outlook on everything.
MAKE HIS FAVORITE TREAT
PLAY A GAME TOGETHER.
LOOK HIM IN THE EYES Look your husband straight in the eyes when he talks to you to show that he is your #1 at that moment.
DON'T PUSH THE BUDGET If you can't afford certain things, don't buy them.  Try not to complain about your standard of living or whine about the things that you don't have.
HELP HIM SHAVE This is a fun way to be close and to get you both laughing.
LOVE YOURSELF Many times we as women hold back on our husbands because of our own insecurities. Learn to let it go. The things that we're so worried about, usually don't even bother him.
DEFEND HIM Don't let others disrespect your husband. Even just a snide comment can hurt. Stick up for the most important person in your life.
JUST GO TO BED!  I don’t always believe in the adage to never go to bed angry.  Our kids sure struggle when they are over tired, and so do we.  In a moment of frustration when tired and cranky, sometimes just go to bed. You'll likely wake up in the morning with a renewed perspective!
PRAISE and SHOW APPRECIATION When your husband works hard, or does something for you, let him know you appreciate him!  Interestingly, researchers have found that praise and admiration is actually on men’s top 5 needs in marriage.
DON'T COMPARE.  Be careful not to compare your husband to others - your dad, brothers, or other men.  They may be great, but remember your husband is too.  Likewise we should avoid comparing ourselves to other wives and moms - which us women are SO guilty of.
ENCOURAGE MAN TIME.  Enthusiastically support your husband in perhaps watching sports with other guys, playing sports, or having time to hang out with guys he is close to.  Women really need other women, and that "man" time can be important for some husbands.
KEEP LEARNING AND BEING CURIOUS.  It can take some real effort and creativity to expand your intellect while tending lots of littles (or whatever your situation may be), but it will make you a more beautiful and interesting wife and mother!  Maybe listen to interesting podcasts as you attack the piles of dishes, always carry a good book with you, or quickly research one new topic especially if it’s something your husband would also find interesting!

Hmmm?

Do you like the new look?
I was going for light and airy....
I only have 2 finals left. Too bad they are both the ones I have been dreading the most.
Having a husband around does make things quite a bit easier.
This is what I came home to last evening after final #2:

I can't wait for the weekend to be here.
Mom & Sissy are coming up to spend Easter with us and to hear me sing in sacrament meeting.

I haven't performed in over a year.
This will be interesting.
Wish me luck (mostly on finals,
but for the other stuff too)!

Wedding Nostalgia

I was on Pinterest today...and I see tons of pins of wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, decorations.....and I got super wedding-hungry (kinda like baby hungry but for weddings). My wedding was the best day of my life & I wouldn't change a thing about the day. Is it normal for me to want to live it over again? I know my sweet husband would rather not stand in a line for 2 hours and be in dress clothes all day...but, I feel like, for girls, it's different. Any and all of you married people out there, is this normal?

HotLips

My husband is the greatest; he knows exactly how to cheer me up.

Rewind with me back to Valentines Day. When I woke up that morning I realized that I hadn't bought any HotLips. Blasphemy! You cannot celebrate Valentines Day without HotLips. Anyway, so after work (mind you, "after work" for us is 7am) I made Chris drive me to 4 different store on a quest for HotLips. I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm a Valentines monster.
Well, there were no HotLips to be found. I was bummed, but I bought a big bag of strawberry frooties instead (to see how the frooties were ultimately my demise click here).

Fast forward with me to yesterday; I was bummed about numerous things and was kind of in one of those crying-for-no-real-reason moods. I snapped at Chris for not putting his cup in the sink and stormed off to lay in bed. I fell instantly asleep and slept for about 2 hours. When I woke up Chris had gone to the gym, done the dishes, taken a shower, and straightened up the apartment. I felt guilty for snapping, especially because he reciprocated with doing service for me.

Then I found a bag of HotLips on my desk. He is too much.

I'm grateful for a husband who loves me enough to cut me some slack when I'm down, and who puts effort into turning my day around.
for those of you who don't know what HotLips are...
I know this may seem counter productive in regards to my Sugaralholicism, but don't worry. I only eat the appropriate serving size after a well-balanced meal (instead of eating them as the meal. Progress!).

525,600/2

I can't believe I have been married for 6 months. The time has flown by! Its been a great six months & I've learned a lot- in fact I was reflecting on all of my "new knowledge" today and I came up with this lovely list:

-Chris likes to sleep on his left side. Sometimes, I don't like it because his back is to me (I am a cuddle-sleeper) and me spooning him doesn't work too well.
-Chris likes warmish-cold showers and views my preferred shower temperature as "scalding" or "boiling."
-Chris doesn't like the sheets tucked in at the bottom. This is another area where we differ in preference (aka: it drives me crazy). I like the sheets to lay flat and even so both parties have equal shares of all sheets and blanket. Chris likes loose, wadded sheets. This makes making the bed a real pain. However, Chris is beginning to see the light and we tucked in the bottom this morning.
-Chris is very observant and knows how to read me very well. There have been countless occasions where I have had an off day or was sad/frustrated/moody (all of the above) and he was able to turn my day around with a bubble bath, treat, or back rub (all of the above). I am so grateful to have a husband who cares.
-Chris is very silly and likes to play. I cannot count the number of times I have been attacked by the shaving cream monster (aka: Chris with shaving cream all over his body), participated in (and won) tickling/wrestling matches, and other fun things. There is never a dull moment in 1523.
-Chris is extremely supportive of me in anything and everything that I do. He prays for my success and encourages me constantly; especially when it comes to my education.
-Having a strong marriage is not easy. Doing the things I saw my parents (and Chris saw his parents) do aren't as easy or as simple as they seemed. It has been amazing to me how hard it can be to get a real dinner on the table- let alone make it to the temple every week.

I'm sure I could go on...but I wont. :) Successful six months down- eternity to go.
Bring it on.

Anxiously Engaged

Sunday. January 30, 2011. 7:59am. For me, was the day that every girl thinks about her whole life; trying to imagine what it would be like to see him on one knee, to see that sparkly ring poking out of its box.

I cannot believe that it has been one year since that special day. I, personally, like it better when Chris tells the story so I talked him into writing up his experience. What a good sport! :)
"How I tell it :)
Hello all of Melissa’s blog readers I have been asked by my amazing wife to share with you all my side of the engagement story. I have no idea why anyone would want to read this but for the love of my dear wife I will write it.
So Melissa and I started dating after I saw her at my sister’s ward. I noticed this cute short curly hair girl and I asked my sister about her. Elizabeth (My sweet sister who lives now in Argentina) told me that Melissa was an amazing person. So after counseling with Elizabeth I decided to add Melissa on facebook. I tested the waters by commenting on one of Melissa’s photos by stating quote, “your way cute”. She then gave me a positive reply that started our pin pall time together. We then e-mailed each other many times a day for a few weeks before we “really” met for the first time. I asked Melissa out on a date over thanksgiving break but I couldn’t wait that long so we moved up the date to the weekend before. On the first date I wanted to find out quick if this girl was worth my time (douche bag alert) so I tested her. I picked her up and we drove down to Orem (a 30 min drive) to go to this restaurant. The restaurant was closed because it has way weird hours (Pizzeria 721). I have yet to go there. So then we went to In-n-Out. On the way down we listened to no music (Test) to see if we could hold a conversation. It was a success! Then after we ate we went to Liberty Park and ended up rolling down a grassy hill and then we got into a weird grass fight. Well needless to say we have a strong connection from the start and it was easy to tell that we had something special.
After a few more dates I finally met the family. I was very impressed with how amazing Melissa’s family was. I remember feeling very nervous when I first met her dad and I remember how welcoming her family was.
Christmas break soon came and I was off to NC. It sucked leaving Melissa but we had an amazing date a temple square right before I left. When I got to NC I had one thing on my mind and that was where I wanted to take my relationship with Melissa. I new that if I wanted marriage that there was no need to wait any longer. So when I was out with my Mom I told her of my desire to start ring shopping so she made a U turn and headed strait for Rudy’s (a ring shop in Fayetteville). When I first held Melissa’s ring I knew it was the one. The price tag didn’t matter because this ring was everything I wanted for my wife. After purchasing the ring the Christmas break soon ended.
After I got back to Utah I spent a few days with Melissa and then I headed back to Rexburg. Now all that was left to do was talk to the Dad. Finally one night when Melissa and I were staying at her parent’s house we told them we wanted to talk. So after Douglas and Jackson (Melissa’s brothers) had gone to bed we sat down to have the talk. This was nerve-racking but also calming. We told them of our plans for the summer and that we were serious about getting married. While we were talking Megan came home and was quickly excused from the room. After we had talked I asked to talk to Jim alone. We talked about many things and I made him promises that I will always keep.
That night I asked Melissa if the next day we could get up early before church and have some alone time. She agreed that it was needed, and then we went to bed. Needless to say I didn’t sleep that well because I knew the next day I was going to purpose. After we got up and dressed for church we headed up to this park that over looked the valley; we were sitting on the bench. Melissa didn’t want to get her butt cold so she was sitting on my lap we were talking about life and I ask her if she wanted to be an old fart with me she said yes and so I took that as she wanted to marry me haha. I then took the ring out of my pocket knelt down on one knee and the rest is history………… "
Us, after church on the big morning...happily exhausted.
And for those of you still reading....here's my side of the story. :)

"I knew Chris and I were going to get engaged. I just didn't know when. But, because decisions needed to be made and soon; we talked to my parents and ran our plans by them. I was going to transfer to BYU-Idaho and Chris and I were going to try to get an internship in South Carolina. We wanted to get married at the end of the summer when Chris' dad would be home for a few weeks from Iraq. The deadline for Fall '11 semester at BYU-I was Sunday (the next morning) so we were under a little pressure. I was anxious to know how my parents were going to react. I knew that they knew I was head-over-heels in love with Chris and that I was thinking about the transfer. I had also told my mom about the possible internship. It was just so much so soon...Chris and I had only been dating for about 2 months. But, I knew it was right. So, we talked to them. Told them everything. It went great! They were very supportive and seemed to be excited for us. I was so relieved! The hard part was over. Chris talked to my dad for a bit and then we spent about an hour after that talking about our future and how exciting everything was.
At this point, I was thinking that we would get engaged in March or April. I was positive Chris didn't have a ring, so when he asked to take a drive with me the following morning before church I wasn't suspicious at all. We got up early the next morning and drove to this beautiful park in Cedar Hills. We walked up the hill to sit on a bench swing. I was siting in Chris' lap and we looked over the valley and talked for awhile. I felt Chris fiddle behind my back with something, but figured it was just his phone or something. Then, he said; "Do you want to be with me forever?" I'm sure I said something cheesy and then he asked me what time it was. "7:59. Why?"
"You're going to want to remember that." He stood up and knelt down. I started bawling as he pulled out the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I said "yes" before he could even finish his "will you marry me."
It was such a great moment, followed by a great day. We got lots of congratulations and our faces were tired from smiling so much. I stared down at my hand all day long, looking at my beautiful ring. It truly was a perfect day. "

H2O

I wish someone would have witnessed the water fight that just ensued in 1523. I began as the innocent victim and emerged as the champion.

Better luck next time, honey. :)
